Grassroots Advocacy with the American Medical Association

Dr. Neil Dash works in Massapequa, New York, as a physician. As a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), Dr. Neil Dash has various opportunities to take part in grassroots advocacy to empower physicians, assist in clearing regulatory roadblocks to a healthy nation, and support other medical practitioners.

The AMA’s grassroots options for physicians are as follows:

- Run a successful campaign: Politically minded physicians can access educational campaign material from AMA’s political action committee. By running for public office or assisting in a campaign for an ally of the public health sector, physicians can actively take part in the political process.

- Become a Very Influential Physician (VIP): AMA’s VIP program helps medical professionals build networks and leverage relationships on Capitol Hill. VIPs educate members of congress and act as an authority on medical issues.

- Download the app: The AMA teamed up with the Physicians Grassroots Network to create a smartphone app that assists in advocacy efforts. The app offers a Capitol Hill directory, an alert system to stay up to date on legislative happenings, and access to important talking points.
